<p>The turn off the Delhi to Jaipur highway takes about half an hour, and then the plots widen, the noise falls away and ten thousand square feet of open ground sits behind a quiet gate. The front door gives nothing away. Step through it and a king and a queen look down from gilded frames while a liveried butler, cast in bronze, holds out a tray that never empties.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The main living room is built around a pharaoh mask set into a wall of rough-sawn timber. Upstairs a pitched timber roof runs the length of the first floor, where a tufted baroque sofa set faces a gold sunburst and the arcade cabinet in the games room glows once the sun goes down.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Each bedroom argues its own case. One sets a red velvet headboard against ribs of warm walnut, another frames fluted black panelling with gold leaf and a crystal drop, and a third rises into a vaulted timber roof above a textured bronze wall, its balcony opening straight into the treetops. Bathrooms are cut from heavily veined marble, bronze in one room and cool grey in the next, backlit mirrors glowing against the stone.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Outdoors the lawn runs to a thousand square feet with room for cricket and for children, the pool waits with loungers and an open air shower, and a paved courtyard under the trees holds a table set for two. An in-house chef takes over the kitchen so nobody else has to. Built for milestone birthdays, reunions and large group getaways, it sits four kilometres from the Heritage Transport Museum, with the birdlife of Sultanpur National Park an easy drive on from
